DuPont Community CU Gains New Members Through School Technology Partnerships

WAYNESBORO, VA: DuPont Community Credit Union (DCCU) recently partnered with Rockingham County Public Schools (RCPC) to offer low interest loans through a payroll deduction plan for purchasing home technology. A total of 38 employees chose to sign up for this unique program.

The maximum amount that could be financed through the program was $2,500. Employees could purchase personal laptops, iPads, desktops, and printers. The technology purchases were available from Apple and Dell and are just like the technologies utilized in RCPS classrooms and offices.

The program was open to all full-time RCPS employees. Participants were required to have the loan payment deducted from their paychecks. To participate, employees had to be a member of DCCU or become a member. The Credit Union issued a total of $59,477 in loans through this payroll deduction program.

Of the 38 employees who took advantage of the program, five were existing DCCU members, and 33 became new members of the Credit Union. Twenty-two of the new members also signed up for home banking and eStatements.

The interest rate was 2.99% except for those employees who opened a checking account with the Credit Union, and elected to have their paychecks direct deposited into their account, and for those employees the interest rate was 0%.
