Earthmover Credit Union raises over $1,700 for local foster care organization

MONTGOMERY, ILL (September 29, 2023) — Earthmover Credit Union (ECU) raised $1,567 in cash and $190 in online donations for Let It Be Us, a local non-profit organization that provides supportive services for families seeking to foster or adopt children. The fundraising took place at a recent Shred Event, held in collaboration with the Village of Montgomery, which offered free paper shredding services to the community.

“I love the opportunity to raise funds for organizations that support our community,” ECU Business Development Manager Heidi Baird said. “Assisting our most vulnerable youth by fundraising for Let It Be Us was something that we at Earthmover Credit Union were happy to aid in.”
The drive-through Shred Event, held at the Montgomery Police Department on Saturday, Sept. 23, hosted hundreds of community members who came to get old personal documents shredded and to donate to the cause. ECU volunteers were on-site to manage the event. Baird collected donations, explaining Let It Be Us and their mission.
“The Shred Event is my favorite community event of the year, because we are able to offer a no-cost service to the community in conjunction with the Village of Montgomery,” said Baird. “This non-profit supports foster children and families by assisting caseworkers in helping waiting children become matched with a licensed foster home that can meet their needs.”

Cars lined up in two lanes, wrapping around the police station. Baird wove between cars, securely stashing donations in her fanny pack. As cars progressed around the building, ECU volunteers removed boxes and bags of papers and carried them to the on-site shred trucks. The papers were promptly destroyed in the shred trucks.

For those who wished to donate, but didn’t have cash on hand, a QR code to the organization’s donation page was provided. Interested community members can still donate at https://letitbeus.org/donation.

Earthmover Credit Union and the Village of Montgomery hold Shred Events twice a year. The next event is tentatively scheduled for May 2024.
