Miami, FL (May 16, 2025) |
Educational Federal Credit Union (EdFed) recently awarded personal finance certifications to nearly 200 high school students in Miami-Dade County during a special ceremony at the North Campus of Miami Dade College (MDC). The certifications were attained by students enrolled in EdFed’s award-winning CUPED (Credit Union Professional & Educational Development) program, offered in partnership with the Department of Career & Technical Education of Miami-Dade County Public Schools.
Now in its third year, EdFed’s CUPED program enables high school students to gain real-world experience in credit union business management by operating EdFed’s mobile branch, representing the credit union at on-campus business development events, and participating in marketing strategy projects throughout the school year. The program awards the personal finance certification to participating students who successfully complete 40 hours of classroom and self-guided instruction and pass a final exam.
“EdFed remains dedicated to enriching young minds with the knowledge and skills they need to navigate key financial milestones in adulthood,” said Cindy Reyes, EdFed’s Financial Education Manager. “We are so proud to see so many of our CUPED students receive their certification and help champion positive financial habits to their family and friends.”
Founded in 1935 to serve school employees in Miami, EdFed has since grown to become the largest credit union headquartered in Miami-Dade County in both assets and membership. “This growth is an outcome of EdFed’s commitment to serving the educational community,” said Christa Dotson Dean, EdFed’s Vice President of Member Outreach. “At EdFed, we strive to educate and empower our members to achieve their financial dreams. The CUPED program is just one example of how our credit union works hard to help make those dreams a reality by educating our students on how to make smart financial decisions early in their financial life.”
