Education Credit Union (ECU) announces the promotion of Marcus Smith as President and Chief Executive Officer.
“We are excited that Marcus will continue on the path of growth and expanded services for the Credit Union’s members and team members” said Chairperson of the Board, Daniel Coward. Coward continued to say “The Board has the ultimate confidence in Smith’s leadership.”
Smith has been with ECU since 2014, most recently he has been the interim CEO since July. Previously, Smith had been the CFO. Prior to joining ECU, Marcus, was a Senior Controls Specialist where he was involved in financial audits, internal control testing, regulatory training, and compliance.

Smith currently serves on the board of 24 Hours in the Canyon, and the Education Credit Union Foundation. Marcus also supports and serves on committees such as AISD iLead and Region Sixteen’s P16 council. Smith was raised in Amarillo, and he and his wife have chosen to raise their family here. Marcus received his Bachelors degree in Business from West Texas A&M University.
