Educational Systems Federal Credit Union awards $1,500 to Calvert County Public Schools
GREENBELT, MD (May 3, 2016) — Educational Systems Federal Credit Union recently awarded $1,500 to Calvert County Public Schools for the grand prize winning tip during the Credit Union’s “100 Days, 100 Ways to Save” promotion and to the winning school of the Calvert County Spelling Bee.
To celebrate the 100th day of school, the Credit Union ran a “100 Days, 100 Ways to Save” campaign. Members of the education community were invited to share tips to save for a chance to win the grand prize of $1,000 to give to the school of their choice on behalf of the Credit Union. The grand prize winner asked that the donation be divided among four Calvert County Public Schools including Calvert Country School, St. Leonard Elementary, Calvert Middle School and Calvert High School. During the six week promotion, over 170 helpful tips were submitted through social media, email or given to a Credit Union employee during on-site visits at schools and community college campuses.
A 7th grade student at Plum Point Middle School won the Calvert County Spelling Bee in round 16 by spelling the word “Fuselage” correctly. As one of the sponsors of the Calvert County Spelling Bee, Educational Systems FCU presented Plum Point Middle School with a trophy and $500 donation. The award funds are to help defray the cost of registering for the Scripps National Spelling Bee and to cover any related expenses.
“Our core purpose is serving the education community,” said Chris Conway, President/CEO of Educational Systems FCU. “We are proud to support education in Calvert County by sponsoring the Spelling Bee and providing a venue for the education community to share their wisdom on how to save money. ”
