GREENBELT, MD (November 25, 2014) - With a core purpose of serving the education community, Educational Systems FCU is coordinating its second annual "Warming Hearts and Hands" donation drive to provide gloves, scarves, hats and hygiene kits to students in need in early December.
Last year, Credit Union employees and volunteers donated hundreds of items to help homeless students in Charles, Montgomery, Prince George's and St. Mary's counties. This was accomplished through a partnership with school student service coordinators in each county to distribute the items as needed to students. This year, Educational Systems FCU is expanding its reach to include students in need attending the community colleges the Credit Union serves.
"We have over 1,500 homeless students at this point in the school year and many families who are experiencing financial hardship," said Denise Ross, Supervisor for Prince George's County Public Schools' Homeless Education Program. "Now that the weather has changed and temperatures have dropped, we want to ensure our children are warm. Donations of gloves, hats, and scarves will assist with this endeavor. The Credit Union's annual contributions are appreciated by the schools, our students, and their families."
"We support education each and every day, it's who we are and what we do," said Chris Conway, President/CEO of Educational Systems FCU. "Our 'Warming Hearts and Hands' initiative allows us to help students stay warm during the winter season, so they can focus on their studies and achieve success in the classroom."
For nearly 60 years, Educational Systems FCU has been serving the education community. With $750 million in assets and 11 branches, the Credit Union serves nearly 90,000 members in seven school systems and three community colleges throughout Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, Montgomery, Prince George's, St. Mary's and Talbot counties.
