Elevations Foundation awards scholarships to 20 local students
BOULDER, CO (June 13, 2016) — The Elevations Foundation awarded $48,000 in scholarships at its annual Celebration of Community on May 23. The 20 scholarship recipients are 2016 graduates of Boulder Valley, JEFFCO, Poudre, St. Vrain Valley, Thompson and Weld RE-4 School Districts. Elevations Foundation’s scholarship initiative has provided over $204,000 in scholarships for higher education during its first six years. Award criteria is, in part, needs-based.
“Elevations Foundation is rooted in education and committed to providing needs-based scholarships to graduating seniors,” said Dennis Paul, Elevations Foundation Vice Chair and Director.
The scholarship-themed Celebration of Community at the Longmont Museum featured two keynote speakers. Steven Leigh, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Colorado Boulder, spoke on the state of scholarship in the United States. Don Unger, former superintendent of the Poudre School District, shared insights on the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program.
“Increasing awareness for scholarship and the challenging landscape young people face today is critical,” said Paul. “The Foundation was thrilled to have two lifelong educators deliver keynotes. A special thanks to Don Unger and Dean Steven Leigh for their insights.”
