Event has raised more than $3 million in scholarship funds
BOULDER, CO (September 7, 2016) — Elevations Credit Union will once again sponsor the Buffalo Bicycle Classic (BBC) on September 11 at the University of Colorado Boulder. Elevations, along with CU’s College of Arts & Sciences, is a founding sponsor of the event, which was created in 2003 to raise scholarship funds for CU Boulder students.
This year’s event will feature seven ride options, from the 14-mile Little Buff around the city of Boulder to the 110-mile Buff Epic through Boulder Canyon, as well as a 5K and a new 10K Buff Fun Run.
“We take great pride in connecting with CU Boulder and our community through this initiative,” said Dennis Paul, vice president of business and community development for Elevations Credit Union. “We feel honored to be able to positively impact Arts and Sciences students,” Paul went on to say.
Since its start in 2003, the BBC has raised more than $3 million in scholarship funds for 1,400 CU students. Scholarship recipients are among the best and the brightest in their classes, maintaining high school GPAs of 4.0 and demonstrating a strong financial need.
“This event represents an incredible opportunity to bring everyone together in support of a worthy cause: committed, engaged and deserving students,” explained Todd Gleeson, a BBC founder and the CU Faculty Director for the event.
Scholarship recipient Zujey Miranda-Gandarilla is on track to graduate with degrees in neuroscience and Spanish, and plans to obtain a Ph.D. in Spanish. “The scholarship allows me to continue attending CU Boulder without college debt and opens the door to studying abroad,” said Miranda-Gandarilla. “It is amazing to see cyclists and runners unify for a great cause.”
Claire Zwaan, another scholarship recipient, added, “It warms my heart to know I am supported by caring people here at CU and in the greater community, and their support drives me to work more diligently toward my goals. With a lighter loan burden, I was able to participate in a CU study abroad exchange program in Wollongong, Australia.”
Miranda-Gandarilla and Zwaan will be on site at this year’s BBC and available for interviews. Media should direct all day-of inquiries to Dennis Paul, Elevations’ vice president of business and community development, at (303) 641-1127 or email@example.com.
