ELGA Credit Union (ELGA) presented Catholic Charities of Shiawassee and Genesee Counties (Catholic Charities) with a donation of $25,000 today. The credit union raised these funds through its annual Ginormous Tent Sale, a yard sale with several tents full of household goods, clothing, furniture and more. The sale proceeds, along with funds raised through internal associate fundraisers and proceeds from food vendors at the sale, were combined to reach the total donation. This donation will support Catholic Charities three soup kitchens, and counseling programs.
“We are thrilled to be the recipient of such a generous donation from ELGA Credit Union’s Ginormous Tent Sale,” said Vicky Schultz, President and CEO of Catholic Charities of Shiawassee and Genesee Counties. “Support like this is crucial to our mission of Providing Help and Creating Hope for many - especially during COVID-19 when the need is so great.”
According to Schultz, the funds raised at the sale will provide food for the organization’s three soup kitchens, which feed more than 250 every day, seven days a week. Additionally, the funds will help off-set counseling expenses, a service which sees more than 50 clients daily.
“This annual sale couldn’t happen without the support of ELGA associates and our community volunteers,” says ELGA CEO Karen Church. “It’s truly a miracle to see so many different organizations come together to make this sale happen. This was our 5th sale, and all together we’ve raised more than $85,000 to benefit the programs at Catholic Charities.”
Donations include items from St. John’s Catholic Church in Davison and ELGA Credit Union associates. Catholic Charities and community volunteers spent several days ahead of the sale unloading and setting up for the big sale.
This year, Smokin’ J’s Barbeque and Sugar Shack both set up at the tent sale and donated 25% of their sales to the fundraiser, helping to make this the most successful Ginormous Tent Sale yet.
