Financial Resources FCU Foundation Announces Annual Scholarship Winners

Bridgewater, NJ  – Financial Resources FCU Foundation, the Foundation for Financial Resources Federal Credit Union, awarded three scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each, from their Annual Scholarship Contest.  A presentation ceremony was held at the Credit Union on August 12 where Lena Matthews, Chairman of the Foundation and President & CEO of the Credit Union, presented the winners with their checks. The award amount is paid jointly to the recipients and to their colleges.  The scholarship winners are:

• Syleen Neely of Franklin Park, NJ will be attending Rutgers University. Her personal goal is to work in the field of Biomedical Engineering.
• Michael Bender of Bound Brook, NJ will be attending The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts.   His personal goal is to be a research scientist.
• Christine Martino of Flemington, NJ will be attending Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania.  Her personal goal is to pursue a Doctorate degree in Chemical Engineering.

Lena Matthews, Chairman of the Foundation and President & CEO of the Credit Union said, “These three students represent the best and the brightest, showing outstanding commitment to their studies and their communities.  We are proud to help support them and eager to follow their achievements as they continue their education.”

The 2011 Foundation Scholarship Contest featured marked changes from previous year’s contests: For the first time, applicants were judged on SAT scores, if applicable; academic performance, community involvement, teacher recommendations, and personal goals, rather than an essay, which was used in years past as the basis for awarding scholarships. Additionally, application was open this year to non-member residents of Somerset, Middlesex and Hunterdon Counties.
