The employees, board of directors, and supervisory committee of Financial Resources Federal Credit Union, with headquarters in Bridgewater, N.J., made sure that 30 local children, who have been separated from their families, had a gift to open this holiday. The children were identified by age and gender though CASA SHaW (Court Appointed Special Advocates of Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren counties), an agency that provides trained community volunteers to act as advocates in court for children who have been abused or neglected and are in the foster care system.
Receiving a gift during the holidays is a bright spot for these children who have been separated from their families and rely on the charity of others for any gifts that they get. Financial Resources employees and members of the Credit Union’s Board of Directors and Supervisory Committee sponsored one or more children, and shopped and wrapped gifts for them based on a wish list. CASA SHaW has been a charity supported by the Financial Resources Foundation, and this is the fourth consecutive holiday season that the credit union supported CASA SHaW’s holiday gift program.
Lena Matthews, CEO of Financial Resources Federal Credit Union, says, “Being in foster care is hard enough. We wanted to make the holidays as happy as possible for these children. We hope that our small contributions during the holidays made a difficult situation as good as possible for the children.”
