First Capital FCU awards three $1,000 Dennis Flickinger Honorable Scholarships to members!

YORK, PA (May 24, 2017) — First Capital Federal Credit Union is proud to announce Sabrina Stough, Hayley Arnold, and Jena Bixler as the 2017 Dennis Flickinger Honorable Scholarship winners. This week, all three winners visited First Capital to receive their checks for $1,000 to be used towards their first year of schooling.

“It’s great to be able to give this money to Sabrina, Hayley, and Jena to help them accomplish their educational goals,” said Sue DeStephano, President/CEO. “We know they’ll go far.”

Sabrina attends Dallastown Area High School. She will enter West Virginia University this fall and pursue a degree in health sciences. Her goal is to become an orthopedic surgeon. Sabrina plays on the varsity basketball team, is involved with track and field, and is in the varsity club. She is also involved with her church and helps with the Dallastown Youth Basketball program.

Hayley is a student at Spring Grove Area High School. She will enter West Chester University in the fall and pursue a degree in biology. Hayley aspires to become a pediatrician. Hayley is involved with Link Crew, National Honor Society, History Club and Field Hockey, just to name a few. Outside school, Hayley is involved with her church.

Jena is a student at West York Area High School. She will start classes at York College in the fall and pursue a degree in graphic design. Jena is on the distinguished honor roll. She also plays field hockey and organized the Kilts for a Cause game to support the Rescue Mission.

The First Capital scholarship program was renamed the Dennis Flickinger scholarship program in 2016 to honor our former CEO, Dennis Flickinger, who retired in 2015. Dennis advocated for financial education in schools and worked tirelessly to promote Credit Unions as a better choice for their financial future.
