First Capital FCU awards three $1,000 Dennis Flickinger Honorable Scholarships to members!

First Capital Federal Credit Union is proud to announce Rachel Lyter, Melanie Tracey, and Lauren Yankanich as the 2018 Dennis Flickinger Honorable Scholarship winners.  Last week, all three winners visited First Capital to receive their checks for $1,000 to be used towards their first year of schooling.

“It’s great to be able to give this money to Rachel, Melanie, and Lauren to help them accomplish their educational goals,” said Sue DeStephano, President/CEO. “We know they’ll go far.”

Rachel attends York Catholic High School.  She will enter Mount St. Mary’s University this fall and pursue a degree in entrepreneurship.  Her goal is to form a company that focuses on social media and content creation.  Rachel is the Yearbook photographer, is Co-Captain of the girls tennis team, and is involved with the York Catholic Country Meadows Club.

Melanie is a student at Dallastown Area High School.  She will enter Penn State Mont Alto in the fall and pursue a degree in forestry.  Melanie aspires to work for DEP/DCNR or the parks system.  Currently Melanie plays on the girls volleyball team and outside school, she volunteers her time at church and at Nixon County Park.

Lauren is a student at Central York High School.  She will start classes at the University of Notre Dame in the fall and pursue a degree in finance.  Lauren hopes to become an investment banker on Wall Street. In school, Lauren is involved with the Future Leaders of America, National Honor Society, and is the Student Representative on the Central York School Board of Directors.  She also runs cross country.  Outside school, Lauren is very involved with community service, raising money for the Four Diamonds Fund, doing service projects for the National Honor Society, and volunteering to time swimmers at the Out Door Country Club swim meets, just to name a few.

The First Capital scholarship program was renamed the Dennis Flickinger scholarship program in 2016 to honor our former CEO, Dennis Flickinger, who retired in 2015.  Dennis advocated for financial education in schools and worked tirelessly to promote Credit Unions as a better choice for their financial future.
