WALL, N.J. –Ruth Rynearson, an elementary school teacher at Asbury Park’s Barack Obama Elementary School was recently awarded the honor of February’s Teacher of the Month by the First Financial Foundation and Thunder 106.
Rynearson, who in addition to teaching is a Girl Scout Leader, after-school tutor and avid school program volunteer, was nominated for the award by her daughter Christina.
“My mom is always looking to learn better ways to reach her students. She constantly volunteers at after-school activities and extra-curriculars,” said Christina. “You can really tell that she loves what she does and I think that is a very important trait for a teacher.”
“I love being there for these kids each and every day and helping them learn and understand new things,” said Ruth. “I hope that they continue to excel at their new school next year.”
The Barack Obama School is scheduled to close at the end of this year.
