Freedom Announces 2011 Scholarship Winners

Freedom Credit Union continued its 77-year commitment to education with the announcement of the 2011 Freedom Credit Union Scholarship Winners. Each year, Freedom Credit Union awards four $1,000 scholarships to qualified high school and college students, who are Freedom Members, to use in furthering their educations.
This year’s winners are: Octavius Blount (Philadelphia, PA) a graduate of Roman Catholic High School who will be attending Arcadia University to study biology and pre-physical therapy; Briann Lafty (Philadelphia, PA) a junior at University of Scranton, who is studying to early and primary education; Robert Brashear, Jr. (Yardley, PA) a graduate of Pennsbury High School who will be attending Penn State – Abington Campus to study mechanical engineering; and Vanessa Serrano (Philadelphia, PA) a graduate of Little Flower Catholic High School who will study elementary education at St. Joseph’s University.
To qualify, students were asked to submit a copy of their most recent academic transcripts and to write a 500-word essay on a stated topic. Scholarship winners were announced in the July 2011 issue of Freedom’s Member newsletter, Financial Focus.
Freedom Credit Union provides financial services to students at several Philadelphia area educational institutions, including Community College of Philadelphia, Gratz College, and Thomas Jefferson University. The credit union offers several services designed especially for students, including free student Checking Accounts, a fixed-rate student Credit Card, and membership in the young adult financial education club, The Edge.
