FREMONT, OH (January 5, 2026) |
Fremont Federal Credit Union is marking its 80th anniversary in 2026 by committing to donate $80,000 to charitable and philanthropic causes throughout the year, honoring eight decades of service since its founding in September 1946.
The initiative, entitled “$80K for 80 Years,” reflects the credit union’s long-standing “People Helping People” philosophy and will support nonprofits, schools, community programs, scholarships, and other local efforts across Northwest Ohio.
“Our members have allowed us to play a significant role in their lives for 80 years, from first cars or first homes or supporting their children’s education,” expressed Nick Cray, FFCU President & CEO. “This anniversary is not just a milestone for us; it’s a tribute to the incredible people who have supported us along the way. ‘$80K for 80 Years’ is our heartfelt way of showing gratitude and giving back to the communities that nurtured us."
Throughout 2026, donated funds will be directed toward youth and school programs including scholarships, food security initiatives, crisis and emergency services, nonprofit development, and charitable fund-raising activities. All contributions will remain within the communities the credit union serves.
Originally founded in 1946 by 40 members in the church basement of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fremont, over the past 80 years Fremont Federal Credit Union has grown into a regional, member-owned financial cooperative serving seven counties: Sandusky, Ottawa, Seneca, Wood, Hancock, Lucas, and Fulton. While the organization has expanded its branches, services, and technology, its mission to strengthen local communities has remained unchanged.
From financial literacy courses taught in Spanish at La Conexión in Bowling Green, to supporting young mothers at Mom’s House in Toledo, or guiding students in exploring careers through the REACH program, FFCU is dedicated to breaking down barriers and creating pathways to success.
“Our guiding principle is to walk alongside our community, empowering them rather than leading from the front,” shared Lori Turner, Community Engagement Manager. “Every class we offer and every conversation we initiate is aimed at equipping our neighbors with the confidence and tools needed to forge a brighter future. This year, we are truly excited to extend our reach and support, which means everything to us!”
Fremont Federal Credit Union annually donates and participates in tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of charitable causes through scholarships, sponsorships, financial education, and community events. In addition to being a United Way “Pacesetter,” a key component of the anniversary giving effort is the credit union’s employee-led “Jeans for Charity” program. FFCU Employees voluntarily contribute a portion of their pay for the option to wear jeans on designated days, with all funds matched by the credit union and distributed quarterly to charitable organizations selected by employees. In 2026, the program is expanding to include full Jeans for Charity weeks, increasing the total impact of donations.
As the credit union looks ahead to continued growth, including a new headquarters planned for 2027, their leaders say the anniversary serves as both a celebration of history and a recommitment to the communities that have supported the organization for 80 years.
