GECU proudly donated $10,000 to the Armed Services YMCA (ASYMCA) Defender of Families sponsorship to help address food insecurity among junior enlisted families on Fort Bliss during the recent government shutdown. The contribution provided critical food supplies for the Junior Enlisted Family Center (JEFC), ensuring service members and their families had access to essential items during a challenging time.
The JEFC offers year-round emergency support for military families, including household goods, clothing, diapers, wipes and a fully stocked emergency food pantry. Its key programs include the Baby Project, No-Cost Food Market, and the Cost-Free Thrift Store help ease financial strain for young military service members and ensure families can meet basic needs.
“Our military families are an essential part of our community, and we want to ensure they feel supported, especially during moments of uncertainty,” said Gina Lewis, Director of Military & Veterans Affairs at GECU. “The Junior Enlisted Family Center plays a vital role in meeting immediate needs for military service members and their loved ones, and we are honored to help strengthen that support. At GECU, the people helping people philosophy guides everything we do, and addressing food insecurity is one of the most important ways we can make a meaningful impact.”
Through collaborations with local organizations like the ASYMCA, GECU remains committed to supporting military families and ensuring they have the resources they need to thrive.
