Genisys Credit Union with record breaking donation to OLHSA

AUBURN HILLS, MI (April 5, 2017) — Surpassing expectations, Genisys Credit Union raised $37,748.29 for the 2017 OLHSA Walk for Warmth. The donation is the largest in company history. The walk, which took place at Great Lakes Crossing Outlets in Auburn Hills, generates funds for the Emergency Utility Assistance program; an effort assisting Oakland and Livingston county households facing utility shut-off notices.

“Genisys takes great pride in helping our friends and neighbors in need,” said Genisys Credit Union President and CEO Jackie Buchanan. “No home should have to face the danger of living without gas or electricity during the unforgiving Michigan winters.”

Genisys has sponsored the OHLSA Walk for Warmth for over twenty years, contributing nearly $330,000 towards the walk in the last decade alone. The partnership is part of Genisys’s Credit Union’s Making a Difference campaign, which raised over $125,000 for local charities last year.

The OLHSA Walk for Warmth is a non-competitive walk held annually since 1990. The walk has risen over $1.5 million dollars since its inception. Last year’s donations helped over 2000 individuals avoid shutoff emergencies; over 40% of those recipients were children. “OLHSA is so thankful for the support that Genisys Credit Union pours into the Walk for Warmth each year,” said Susan Harding, OLHSA CEO. “Their dedication to Oakland and Livingston County community members is inspiring and through our partnership we are able to keep neighbors and friends safe and warm in their homes.”
