Auburn Hills, MI, January 23, 2012 – Genisys Credit Union recently won a 2011 Communitas Award for their Holiday Extravaganza nomination in the Community Partnership category.

Genisys, Holiday Extravaganza’s Corporate Organizer for the past 30 years, helps unite the communities of Auburn Hills, Pontiac, Waterford and White Lake to bring a Holiday Parade, Gallery of Ice and Children’s WinterArt Center to downtown Pontiac each year.

“This award reiterates how pooling resources and working together can make a difference in the community,” said Jackie Buchanan, CEO.

Communitas Awards recognizes exceptional businesses, organizations and individuals that are unselfishly giving of themselves and their resources, and those that are changing how they do business to benefit their communities.

The judges found that Genisys Credit Union clearly exhibits the spirit of communitas, a Latin word that means people coming together for the good of a community.

“Credit Unions were formed on the basis of ‘people helping people’ so it’s an honor to be recognized for something that we strive to accomplish daily in everything we do,” said Buchanan.

Communitas Awards is an outgrowth of the pro bono recognition program of the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals, which honors creative achievement and fosters partnerships with charities and community organizations.
