Auburn Hills, MI, November 8, 2011 – The City of Rochester Hills recently presented Genisys Credit Union with the Community First Award, recognizing Genisys for their distinguished performances and extraordinary acts of volunteerism and community service.

During a time of great financial difficulty, a Rochester Hills senior citizen was unable to buy groceries for over four weeks. She could not meet her living expenses, pay for medication and still have enough money left to buy food. In addition, the woman is handicapped, leaving her unable to reach Neighborhood House’s emergency food program.  When the staff at Genisys Credit Union heard of her dire situation, they pooled their own money to buy groceries for this patron and delivered them to her home.

“We are incredibly honored to have received the Community First Award,” said Jackie Buchanan, Chief Executive Officer. “I’m told the award is designed to recognize those whose actions unify and inspire others through exemplary service, but honestly, it’s the citizens of this community that constantly unify and inspire us here at Genisys to do what we do every day.”

Genisys also supports several of Rochester Hills’ community-wide events and initiatives including Festival of the Hills, Fire & Ice Fest, the Rochester Hometown Christmas Parade, Stonewall Pumpkin Festival and Wet and Wild Wednesdays.

“Genisys Credit Union is known throughout the entire metropolitan area for their generous sponsorship of many community events,” said Mayor Bryan K. Barnett. “They are wonderful partners with the City of Rochester Hills.”

The Community First Award Committee recognizes that community members are the strength and support that make Rochester Hills an exceptional community.  To learn more about the Community First Award, visit www.rochesterhills.org and click on “Our Community.”
