Auburn Hills, MI, June 28, 2011 – On June 15-16, 2011, more than 30 Michigan credit union leaders participated in the Michigan Credit Union League’s (MCUL) annual Hike the Hill in Washington, D.C. to discuss top issues affecting credit unions today.
During the event, a reception was held at the Credit Union House where Lon Bone, Genisys Credit Union Vice President of Public Relations and MCUL Board Director, was inducted into the Hall of Leaders for his outstanding commitment to the credit union movement over the years.
“Lon was presented with a plaque of recognition for his many contributions to grassroots advocacy on behalf of the movement,” said Dave Adams, MCUL & Affiliates President/CEO. “Genisys Credit Union’s commitment to advocacy and especially Lon’s ability to represent the organization are both uniquely strong in our credit union community. Genisys has a long-standing legacy of leading by example with resource commitment in that area. Were it not for that commitment, we would have far less success in PAC fundraising, relationship building and the associated legislative successes.”
The Hall of Leaders was created in 2008 by Credit Union House, LLC as a way to provide lasting recognition to individuals who have played and continue to play key roles in strengthening the credit union system and have made a significant impact on the credit union movement at the local, state, or national level. It also portrays the volunteer efforts and dedication that these individuals have toward the values and mission on which credit unions were founded.
“Being named to the Credit Union Hall of Leaders was completely unexpected,” said Bone. “Supporting credit unions and the philosophy of ‘people helping people’ has always been important to me so this award is a huge honor.”
Bone is one of 31 leaders representing 16 states who have been inducted into the Hall of Leaders to date.
