Georgia United Credit Union thanks Laurens County for helping “Can Hunger”

DUBLIN, GA (April 24, 2015) — Georgia United Credit Union (Georgia United) hosted its fourth annual CAN HUNGER food drive February 1 – March 31, 2015, to collect non-perishable food to benefit charitable organizations throughout Georgia and help alleviate hunger for local families.  Thanks to the generosity of its members and employees, the credit union collected a record number of food donations—55,580 cans, which equates to 28 tons.

The Dublin Branch at 2006 Veterans Boulevard was the top producing branch among all Georgia United locations with a whopping 7,128 cans (or 3.5 tons) going directly to the Laurens County Baptist Association Food Bank. All members who donated cans were entered into a random drawing for a $200 VISA® gift card.  The card was awarded to Laura Mobley of Dublin, daughter of Tiffany Mobley —who encouraged Laura to participate in the food drive.

“Each year, the number of donations to our food drive grows—and this year, we’re blessed to be able to touch the lives of even more local families,” said Amy Thompson, Georgia United’s Dublin Branch Manager.  “We pride ourselves on giving back to the communities and the food drive is just one of the ways we do that. Special thanks this year goes to Southwest Laurens Elementary School for being our largest single donor at 3,493 cans!”

Since the food drive’s inception in 2012, the credit union has donated a total of 147,914 cans which equates to 73 tons throughout their branch network.
