FREMONT, MI (December 5, 2013) -- Gerber Federal Credit Union (Gerber FCU) is partnering with the Newaygo County Regional Educational Service Agency (NCRESA) to develop an innovative teaching program designed to help students gain real-world work experience and money management skills. The student run branch is a school and business partnership operated by students for the students, instructors and staff at NCRESA and is scheduled to open December 12, 2013. This is a rare option few high school students ever get to experience and is a great opportunity to expand the credit union's financial education efforts within local schools. The Commons Cash Center, as named by the students, is located within the Commons Center of the Newaygo Career-Tech Center. Char Morris, Certified Financial Counselor with Gerber FCU will supervise the in-school branch which will operate one day a week for students and staff who want to make deposits or withdrawals, invest, or establish credit.
Gerber Federal Credit Union has over 13,000 members with assets totaling over $122 million.
