GEORGETOWN, SC (February 26, 2015) -- Tiffany Cameron was recently named the GKCU Employee of the Year for 2014. Cameron, employed with GKCU for 8 years, is a loan officer in the Georgetown office. Her main responsibilities are assisting members with their lending needs, including auto, boat, personal and home, as well as welcoming new members and introducing them to the products and services of the credit union, including loan products such as credit life/credit disability, GAP insurance and warranties.
“We are pleased to recognize an employee like Tiffany with this recognition as Employee of the Year,” states Nikki Ewing, Vice President of Marketing. “She is a vital team member to the success of the credit union. She works hard to make every member she helps feel as if they are her main priority, as well as assists co-workers with a variety of duties, often times without having to be asked.”
Nominated by her coworkers, Cameron proudly works with GKCU members with a variety of financial needs with a patient spirit and helpful nature. She is a graduate of the SC Lending School and has received services certificate through the CUNA STAR educational program. She is one of GKCU’s top producers in loan volume and is a quick learner with new technology and ways to make the members experience the best possible.
Tiffany is a native of Georgetown, where she lives now with her husband and two children.
The employee of the year is nominated by GKCU employees and voted on by the management of the credit union.
Also recognized at the 2015 Annual Meeting was retiring board member, Mr. Michael Sorokach. Having great leaders is a true testament to the success of any organization or business. Having great leaders that VOLUNTEER their time, knowledge and support to an organization or business speaks more than just success but quality and strength. For over 30 years, GKCU has had the privilege of that type of leadership with Board of Directors volunteer Mr. Michael Sorokach.
Mike joined the credit union movement many years before his calling to serve. As an employee with Oneita Mills in Andrews in the 1970s, Mike began his journey as a credit union owner and quickly became an advocate for the “for people not profit” philosophy. When the Oneita Mills Credit Union merged with Georgetown Kraft in the early 80s, Mike joined onboard and has remained a valiant support, activist and leader within the credit union movement.
During his time on the board, Mike has served his credit union by attending monthly meetings, overseeing operational investments and expenses, approving policies and developing long term strategies to make the credit union grow. He served on the building committee for the Pawleys Island branch and has served on the nominating and employee salary committees. But the committee that has been a passion of Mike’s has been his service on the Scholarship Committee. Since its inception, Mike has served as judge for this important outreach and recognition for our future members. He has been instrumental, on behalf of GKCU, in awarding over $67,000 in scholarship aid to graduating seniors and giving them a hand in furthering their education.
Being a great leader also means knowing when to step aside and let a new generation of leaders take the organization to the next level. The 2015 Annual Meeting marked Mike’s retirement from the GKCU Board of Directors. Words cannot express our gratitude, our pride, our honor having him serve us all these years.
