GLCU Selects Community Volunteers to “Make a Difference”

North Chicago, IL – On Saturday, October 23rd, millions of Americans will volunteer in their communities on USA WEEKEND’S Make a Difference Day, the nation’s largest day of doing good.

Locally, Great Lakes Credit Union (GLCU) selected 5 volunteer participants from many entries and has given them each $100 to “Make a Difference” in their community.  Between now and October 23rd they will complete and document their volunteer deeds and then be recognized at a ceremony taking place at GLCU’s Libertyville Branch (1509 N. Milwaukee Ave.) at 11:00 am that day.

Volunteer participants selected the following causes and will be using their $100 to:

  • Purchase toiletries and cleaning supplies for a Libertyville food pantry
  • Donate to a Spring Grove family with 4 small children who lost their mother to cancer and are being raised by their grandmother
  • Identify and purchase supplies for a new Boys and Girls Club
  • Purchase clothing and stuffed animals for victims of sexual abuse that have had to be hospitalized
  • Donate to Save a Pet to help with an over abundance of abandoned pets due to the economy

The “Make a Difference Day” celebration will also include opportunities for individuals to spontaneously make a difference by registering to become an organ donor, obtaining information on giving blood, donating gently used shoes and learning about local volunteer organizations and opportunities.
