SACRAMENTO, Calif., November 29, 2011—Donations made over several years by employees of The Golden 1 Credit Union found a purpose on November 16, when the new Pediatrics Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at the University of California, Davis Medical Center (UCDMC) celebrated its grand opening.

The new unit, officially called the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit/Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, is a state-of-the-art facility designed for children who need specialized medical care for traumatic injuries, life-threatening diseases, and post-operative care after open-heart surgery and other intensive procedures.

At 25,000 square feet, the new PICU features single-patient rooms with enough space for family members to remain at a child’s bedside around the clock. It also has a colorful wild-animal theme, with walls decorated with images of lions, tigers and bears caring for their cubs.

The money donated by Golden 1 staff was dedicated to a room where PICU doctors and caregivers can rest during long shifts. A plaque on the wall outside the room recognizes the donation from Golden 1 employees.

“We are very pleased that we had the opportunity to support this amazing medical facility for children and their families,” says Golden 1 President and CEO Donna A. Bland. “Those who treat the smallest patients often have the biggest hearts—they certainly deserve to be well-rested for their very important work.”

The Golden 1 Credit Union is California’s leading credit union, with more than 80 branches, $7.4 billion in assets and nearly 600,000 members. For more information about Golden 1, please visit golden1.com.
