Sacramento, Calif., October 12, 2010—On Saturday, September 25, Golden 1 employees joined thousands of volunteers who spent their morning cleaning up trash along popular recreation areas of the American River.
The 16th annual Great American River Clean Up was held in collaboration with Coastal Cleanup Day and was one of hundreds coordinated throughout the U.S. along rivers, lakes, creeks, bays, the coast and highways. Now more than ever, parkway upkeep relies on volunteer efforts.
Golden 1 proudly embraces a philosophy of “people helping people,” encouraging employees to volunteer in ways that are meaningful to them. “At Golden 1, we believe in giving back to the communities we call home,” said Donna Bland, Interim President and CEO. “It was nice to see so many employees turn out to give their time for such a worthy cause.”
The cleanup was a resounding success with 11,361 pounds of trash and 7,002 pounds of recyclables cleared from 22 waterfront sites. About 47 miles of waterfront were cleaned, including high-traffic sites such as River Bend Park and Discovery Park. Sacramento reported record participation, with numbers nearly doubling over last year.
For Golden 1’s part, the numbers are just as impressive. So far, in 2010, more than 1,660 employee volunteer hours have been logged in support of worthy organizations and causes throughout California.
The Golden 1 Credit Union is California’s leading credit union, with more than 80 offices, $7 billion in assets and 680,000 members.
