Greylock donates $75,000 to Boys & Girls Club’s Triple Play and Meals Program
PITTSFIELD, MA (August 22, 2016) — Greylock Federal Credit Union recently made a $75,000 donation to the Boys & Girls Club of the Berkshires to fund the Club’s Triple Play and Meals program. The donation will be made in $25,000 increments over three years.
“Greylock is happy to partner with the Boys & Girls Club to sponsor the great work that will be done through the Triple Play and Meals program,” said John L. Bissell, Greylock President & CEO. “An important part of Greylock’s mission is to engage with our community. We are proud to support the Boys & Girls Club in this effort that will do so much to improve the quality of young peoples’ lives and the future of the Berkshires.”
Triple Play is a national health and wellness program incorporating three parts – Mind, Body and Soul. It challenges youth to be healthy and active by learning to eat nutritionally, to become physically fit, and to form positive social relationships. In support of the fitness piece, there will be daily physical challenges, and opportunities for members to create their own challenges. Children will be educated about vitamins and minerals, the food pyramid, appropriate portion size, and will be encouraged to take charge of their own choices.
“We are grateful to Greylock for their generosity in helping us run this very important and effective program,” said Boys & Girls Club of the Berkshires Executive Director Chris Jacoby. “Greylock’s support of the Triple Play and Meals program helps the Club in fulfilling its mission of assuring and enhancing the quality of life for youth by helping them realize their potential for growth, development, and leadership.”
The meals component of the program will provide nutritious dinners in a positive and supportive environment, five days a week at the Club’s “Light House Café.” There will be dinner presentations so meals can be teachable moments. Staff and volunteers will work with youth to develop dinner etiquette and manners, and help foster substantive discussions during dinner. Discussion topics may be as simple as “what did you learn today?” or “what would you like to be when you grow up?” The donated funds from Greylock will help buy food for the program.
The Triple Play curriculum includes pre and post testing and will begin in September along with the meals component. For more information call the Boys & Girls Club of the Berkshires at (413) 448-8258, or visit www.bgcberkshires.org.
