TAMPA, FL (October 19, 2023)Local credit union GTE Financial celebrates International Credit Union Day by being chosen as an honoree for the 2023 Tampa Bay Business Journal One Tampa Bay awards. The credit union is proud to be among 50 local non-profit organizations and companies being recognized in the Tampa Bay area. Since 2010, GTE Financial has donated $4.9 million to the local community, volunteered over 23,000 hours, and is proud to say that 62% of their employees reflect the diversity of the communities they serve. So far this year, the credit union has donated $138,000 and served 1,693 hours.

“Our charitable mission is to benefit the community through passionate support of local charities and initiatives that further the impact of financial literacy and focus on helping to build individual prosperity,” said Jennifer Maxfield, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing and Impact Officer. “We are proud to be named a 2023 One Tampa Bay Honoree because, to us, there’s no greater indicator that our philanthropic mission, culture, and strategy are alive, well, and thriving.”

Throughout the years, GTE has not only contributed significantly to the community but has also launched several initiatives and products with a purpose for its members, including Future Change in 2014, the award-winning GTE Mobile App in 2020, Instant Cash in 2022, and the award-winning Level Up Financial Education program in 2022. GTE’s big-picture goals concentrate primarily on improving the financial wellness of their members and the communities they serve. They are passionate about elevating future financial trajectories through development services, education, counseling, and volunteerism coupled with advantageous, affordable, and attainable products.

A Business Journal judging panel reviewed nominations from throughout the Bay area which consisted of nonprofit organizations working within the community, and businesses that go above and beyond with their corporate philanthropy. Judges considered a variety of factors, including how much of a nonprofit organization’s expenses went directly to programs and how well companies met their philanthropic goals.
