Hank Barrett named California Credit Union League chairman
ONTARIO, CA (November 9, 2016) — Hank Barrett—president and CEO of Valley First Credit Union in Modesto, CA—was named board chairman of the California Credit Union League during its recent REACH Conference held at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, Nov. 2-4.
Rounding out the executive committee are vice chairman Nader Moghaddam, president and CEO Financial Partners Credit Union in Downey, CA, and John Cassidy, president and CEO of Sierra Central Credit Union in Yuba City, CA. “I am excited and honored to serve in this position and hope to add value to our state trade association,” Barrett said.
Among the top of his list of goals for his tenure is an area he believes in strongly–advocacy.
“We have an excellent team in place within our trade association that represents us in Sacramento and D.C. This, along with a heightened engagement from a larger percentage of our member credit unions is essential to our success,” Barrett said. “With more credit union contributions of time and money to our advocacy program, we will be an even stronger force to be reckoned with. As we have seen over the past six years, we really need to make sure that we are getting our legislative issues heard and resolved.”
Barrett started his credit union career 36 years ago in Southern California, but has spent the last 26 years at the helm of Valley First, formerly Vintage FCU.
He has been active in numerous League positions over the years and is a 1983 graduate of Western CUNA Management School. He has served on numerous community boards, and is currently on the Richard Myles Johnson Foundation board of directors.
He has served on the California League board since 2010; prior to that, he served on the League’s “Assembly of Delegates” for a number of years.
Barrett is a graduate of the University of La Verne, where he received a B.A. in business administration.
