Hanscom FCU Charitable Foundation supports Relay for Life’s Hope from Home

HANSCOM AFB, MA (July 6, 2020) — Hanscom Federal Credit Union Charitable Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Hanscom Federal Credit Union, recently supported the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in Burlington, MA, with a donation of $2,364, matching the amount raised by Hanscom FCU employees for a total donation of $4,728. In the wake of COVID-19, this year’s event was rescheduled to June 7, retooled to be entirely virtual, and dubbed “Hope From Home.” Hanscom FCU helped to support “Hope From Home” with a $1,000 sponsorship for the event itself.

The credit union’s social responsibility department created the Relay Step Challenge, an initiative to drive employee engagement in the absence of a physical Relay for Life. Employees were encouraged to walk, run, or bike as many miles as possible toward a goal of reaching a combined 2,020 miles from June 1-7, with prizes awarded along the way. The end of the Relay Step Challenge coincided with the “Hope From Home” digital event, which featured many of the traditional ceremonies Relay for Life is known for and also included video fitness and entertainment segments, as well as messages about Relay for Life’s mission from survivors and researchers.

“The work that Relay for Life does on a community level embodies the ‘People Helping People’ ethos that we have at our core,” said Paul J. Marotta, HanscomFCU Charitable Foundation’s chairman. “It’s wonderful to see so many of our Hanscom FCU team and the greater Massachusetts family participating in such an impactful event, even in the midst of this epidemic. They haven’t let social distancing stop them from helping and celebrating such a worthy cause.”
