Hanscom FCU Charitable Foundation’s cash raffle supports CU Kids at Heart
HANSCOM AFB, MA (May 21, 2021) — One lucky winner was the recipient of $20,000 this spring through Hanscom Federal Credit Union Charitable Foundation’s cash raffle, with proceeds benefitting Credit Union Kids at Heart®. Elizabeth Heagy’s winning ticket #5884 was drawn April 28, 2021, and the Leesburg, Virginia, resident received her check during a presentation May 14, 2021.
The 3,000 tickets available for the raffle sold out in a record-breaking three weeks, and raised $40,000 for CU Kids @ Heart’s mission of advancing lifesaving research at Boston Children’s Hospital. For over 21 years, Hanscom FCU and its Foundation have collaborated closely with Credit Union Kids @ Heart to support the important work of raising awareness and funding scientific research aimed at preventing, treating, and/or curing pediatric neurological diseases including Moyamoya disease, cerebral palsy, pediatric brain cancer, and pediatric epilepsy and other seizure disorders.
The credit union raises money for CU Kids @ Heart through cash raffles such as this one and employee challenges, as well as participation in the iconic Boston Marathon, where #TeamHanscomFCU runners commit to raising funds for a coveted bib.
“The member response to this raffle was nothing short of amazing, especially when you consider all the obstacles the pandemic presented,” said Laura Galeski, Hanscom Charitable Foundation’s social responsibility manager. “Our employees did a fantastic job adapting to some of the changes we had to make this year. In the end, though, it’s our members who are helping us make a big impact on these children’s health futures, and for that, I’m grateful.”
