Hanscom FCU honors WWII hero Mike Kaminsky

HANSCOM AFB, MA (July 19, 2017) — Mike Kaminsky doesn’t let grass grow under his feet. Last night, the 91-year-old WWII U.S. Army veteran was honored at the Lowell Spinners game by the Hanscom FCU Heroes Among Us program.

HeroesAmong Us celebrates local U.S. military veterans nominated by the community. From batting practice with the team and dinner at the Home Plate BBQ to a great view of the game from a luxury box, the program is full of opportunities to enjoy a night at the ball park.

“We are honored to have Mike as our first hero of the season,” said Paul Marotta, Chairman of the Board for Hanscom FCU. “Like so many of his generation, Mike helped preserve our freedom at a personal cost. We can never fully express our gratitude.”

Recently, Mike traveled to Washington, DC with Honor Flight New England to see the WWII memorial. He also regularly visits the horses at Strongwater Farm in Tewksbury, through a program at Bedford Green, a supportive community for veterans age 55+ where he lives.

The Heroes Among Us program is part of Hanscom FCU’s outreach to veterans, which includes a monthly roundtable on personal finance at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford, Massachusetts and many events supporting the VA Boston Healthcare System.
