Hawaii State FCU donates $33,333 to The Friends of the Library of Hawaii

HONOLULU, HI (June 24, 2019)Hawaii State Federal Credit Union (Hawaii State FCU), Hawaii’s largest credit union lender with nearly 110,000 members on Oahu and Maui, presented a donation of $33,333 to The Friends of the Library of Hawaii at the 72nd Annual Friends of the Library of Hawaii Booksale at a special Hawaii State FCU Members’ Preview Night on June 21.

“As title sponsor of the pre-eminent booksale in Hawaii, Hawaii State FCU members and their families get early access to the books at a member-only preview night before the booksale opens to the public,” said Andrew Rosen, president and CEO of Hawaii State FCU. “All money raised that night goes toward The Friends of the Library of Hawaii and their mission to maintain free public libraries across the state. As a strong believer in financial literacy, we’re happy to support the public library system and are committed to helping Hawaii’s keiki succeed.”

Hawaii State FCU has been the title sponsor of the Annual Friends of the Library of Hawaii Booksale since 2013, donating nearly $200,000 and raising an additional $87,000 in sales at Hawaii State FCU’s members’ preview nights. Pop-up bookstores have also been established at Hawaii State FCU’s Main and Alii branches. Proceeds benefit the Hawaii State Public Library System.

“We are thankful to Hawaii State FCU for their generous donations and support over the past seven years,” said Nainoa Mau, executive director of The Friends of the Library of Hawaii. “Our annual booksale is an island tradition that many people look forward to every year. We would not be able to pull this off without the support of our sponsors.”

The Friends of the Library of Hawaii is a nonprofit whose mission is to promote and support Hawaii’s public libraries. Located at the McKinley High School cafeteria, the 72nd Annual Friends of the Library of Hawaii Booksale features more than 150,000 books, CDs, DVDs, comics and manga, and an eclectic selection of donated art. A catalogue of rare and collectible books will also be open for inspection at the sale. The event is open to the public through June 30.
