NEWBURGH, IN (September 26, 2014) -- Heritage Federal Credit Union has awarded scholarships to two student-athletes at the Heritage Federal Credit Union Student-Athlete Academic Honors Breakfast Thursday morning, September 25th, 2014 on the University of Evansville campus.
Men’s Soccer team member Kevin Shafer and Women’s Soccer team member Bronwyn Boswell were awarded the scholarships, which are for $1,014 each.
“At the credit union, we look for top performers and, in keeping with this philosophy, we looked for the same attributes in selecting the scholarship recipients. We had a lot of great candidates to choose from for this award,” said Ruth Jenkins, CCE, CUERME, President and CEO of Heritage Federal Credit Union. “Through this award, we are pleased to support those students who exhibit academic achievement, community service and campus leadership. We congratulate both student-athletes on becoming the third recipients of this annual award.”
Kevin Shafer is a member of the University of Evansville’s Men’s Soccer team, and has volunteered 20.5 hours of community service. Kevin is a senior with a cumulative GPA of 3.9 and has participated in numerous community service activities including the Aces Clinic, SAAC Car Wash, Project Linus, Komen Run, Undergraduate Research Committee, and has generously volunteered his time at Harper, Scott, Newburgh, and Oak Hill Elementary Schools.
Bronwyn Boswell is a member of the University of Evansville’s Women’s Soccer Team, and has volunteered 38.25 hours of community service. Bronwyn is a sophomore with a cumulative GPA of 3.952 and has participated in numerous community service activities including SAAC Car Wash, Mater Dei Youth Clinic, Project Linus, Uncharted International, Newburgh/Boonville Recreational Soccer, Bethel Church Kid’s Ministry, Holiday Village Retirement Home, Upward Soccer, Aces Soccer Camp, and South Terrace School Math Night.
The student-athlete recipients will be honored on a plaque on the UE campus.
