Heritage Federal Credit Union Celebrating

International Credit Union Day This Thursday

Newburgh, Indiana – This Thursday, October 21, credit union members around the world will celebrate International Credit Union Day, an event to commemorate the credit union movement’s history and achievements. In honor of this special day, at all of its seven branches, Heritage Federal Credit Union will serve members coffee and donuts from opening until 11:00 am; hot dogs, chips and water from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm; and cookies from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. Additionally, Heritage Federal Credit Union will give away free jar openers (while supplies last) at all branches and free document shredding by ShredX at the Vogel Road location from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm and at the Bell Oaks branch from 4:00 until 6:00 pm.

Since 1948, International Credit Union Day has been celebrated annually on the third Thursday of October. Each year, the international event affords the opportunity to remember credit unions’ proud history and promote awareness of and support for the credit union difference. This year’s theme – Local. Trusted. Serving you. – underlines the commitment to their communities and trustworthy member service that credit unions today embody.  Heritage Federal Credit Union strives to uphold these commitments daily, as confirmed by one member in a recent member survey, “Heritage Federal Credit Union has always made me feel that my business is valued, important and appreciated. This means everything to me because although I may not be the biggest customer I am treated with respect and courtesy…treating customers right is what makes you great.”

Credit unions are not-for-profit financial cooperatives that provide an effective and viable alternative to for-profit financial institutions for more than 186 million members at more than 54,000 credit unions in 97 countries worldwide. They exist to serve their members, providing a safe place to save money and access affordable loans. Locally, Heritage Federal Credit Union offers financial products and services to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Vanderburgh or Warrick County, or has an immediate family member who does.  As of September 2010, Heritage Federal Credit Union has over $366 million in assets, serves more than 37,837 members, and operates seven branches in Vanderburgh and Warrick Counties.

Credit unions are recognized as a force for positive economic and social change and have provided significant social and economic value in both developed and emerging nations. International Credit Union Day is sponsored by World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU), the international trade association and development agency for credit unions worldwide, and Credit Union National Association (CUNA), the premier trade association for credit unions in the United States.

On October 21, credit unions from around the world will be celebrating the day with parades, festivals, contests and open houses. For more information about Heritage Federal Credit Union’s events, visit www.hfcu.info.
