Heritage Trust hires first student intern from student run branch

CHARLESTON, SC (June 13, 2017) — Heritage Trust recently hired Kelsey Layton, a 2017 Summerville High School graduate who has worked in the credit union’s student run branch program since August 2015.  Kelsey is one of eight original students who began working in our student run branch as one of our flagship initiatives.   She will soon be working as a Member Service Representative at Heritage Trust as she continues her college education.  Kelsey proved to be a leader in the student branch while performing various duties including opening new memberships, teller transactions, vault teller balancing and audits.  The work ethic and skills that Kelsey obtained made her a viable candidate to recruit as a new employee for Heritage Trust.  The credit union looks forward to Kelsey joining their team and seeing her continued growth.

Heritage Trust began its student run branch program in January 2015.  Since then they have hired and trained over 120 students in Dorchester, Berkeley and Charleston Counties.  They continue to work with all area school districts to teach the importance of financial literacy while contributing to the local workforce by providing students that are “work ready” once graduating from high school.
