(May 6, 2014) -- Heritage Trust Federal Credit Union partnered with other Lowcountry businesses to sponsor the 12th Annual Downtown Walterboro Criterium on April 30th. This annual cycling race is part of the USA CRITS Speed Week’s nine days of racing and features Olympians and national champions racing through the streets of historic downtown Walterboro. The turns and unique landscape of downtown Walterboro makes this course a true favorite for both spectators and cyclists.
“Criteriums are historically run on short laps through city streets, making it the most spectator-friendly form of cycling with an ever-growing following of fans,” commented Heritage Trust Branch Manager and Walterboro native. “The Walterboro race has gained such a tremendous amount of community support and we are proud to be a sponsor.”
As a sponsor, Heritage Trust provided spectators with cool refreshments during the race and block party. Heritage Trust also provided fans with an opportunity-to-win gift basket.
For those spectators who weren’t able to make it to the Lowcountry, the race was streamed live online with the help of Heritage Trust. Race camera crews cruised around the course in the back of the Heritage Trust vehicle and were able to stream the race to thousands of fans around the globe.
“This event allowed Heritage Trust to support the community in a unique way with the use of our vehicle,” said Dustin Haynes, Heritage Trust Business Development Representative. “We enjoy working with our community not only through financial support, but taking part in what makes the Lowcountry unique – a true sense of community by supporting what promotes our home as an ideal place to live, work and play.”
