Hispanic market expert breaks down largest, fastest-growing segment for credit union growth

MADISON, WI (October 15, 2014) – CUNA is proud to welcome Coopera back to the CUNA Community Credit Union & Growth Conference to help present the emerging markets track.

“We’re honored to have Coopera be involved with this year’s community-focused conference,” said Meghann Dawson, Director of Learning Events, “Coopera is uniquely positioned to offer guidance for any credit union that’s interested in reaching the largest, fastest-growing, youngest and most underserved market in the United States – Hispanics.”

To help credit unions reach out to this emerging demographic, Coopera will host the following sessions onsite

  • Moving Beyond the Headlines: A look at the U.S. Immigration System and Financial Solutions for Immigrants (presented in partnership with the National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions)

More than 40 million immigrants reside in the United States. Is your credit union equipped to serve this emerging market? All financial institutions can serve immigrants; however questions about how to best do this often paralyze many. This workshop will walk through the basics of the U.S. immigration system and explore financial product solutions via a credit union panel to include Maria Martinez, CEO for Border Federal Credit Union, Polina Yakusheva, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for Fitzsimons Credit Union and Raquel Gallagher Moline, Branch Manager for Ascentra Credit Union.

  • Banking Unbanked Hispanics with Unique Financial Product Innovations

While the U.S. Hispanic market is one of the fastest growing populations, it is also greatly underserved. Often lured by alternative financial service providers for convenience, hassle-free transactions and immediate availability of funds, the Hispanic unbanked consumer may not be unaware of better financial alternatives at credit unions. Learn about new financial innovations in the marketplace and how your credit union can position itself to capture this growing, untapped market.

In addition to presenting onsite, Coopera will also host the Warren Morrow Hispanic Growth Fund Launch at the welcome reception on Tuesday, November 4th.  CUNA and Coopera recently established this fund through the National Credit Union Foundation to honor Coopera’s founder, Warren Morrow. A visionary in the credit union industry and Hispanic community, Morrow passed away in early 2012 at the age of 34. In honor of his dedication and service, the Warren Morrow Hispanic Growth Fund was established to assist credit unions with grants to reach and serve the Hispanic community.
