As the federal government shutdown extends into its second month, Hiway Federal Credit Union (Hiway) is partnering with members to find solutions.
Since the shutdown’s inception, Hiway has extended loan payment deferments (Skip-a-Pay), and/or offered short-term hardship loans to about three dozen members, and the numbers are growing each day.
The shutdown has also prompted Hiway’s lending team to look at other potential improvements and offerings that may help members facing hardship now and in the future, according to President/CEO Dave Boden.
“As a not-for-profit credit union, situations like this speak to our core purpose of helping people, and we want to continue to improve how we’re able to do just that,” said Boden. “We encourage any affected federal workers to reach out to us; we’re honored to explore ways we can assist.”
Federal employees affected by the shutdown may be able to utilize the below options from Hiway:
- Skip-a-payment on your Hiway loan(s)
- Multiple loan options, including potential consolidation and/or refinance on loans from Hiway and other institutions
- Free financial review
- Credit counseling services via LSS
- Low fixed rate loan to help you cover current obligations, including mortgage payments
