The Hiway Federal Credit Union Gold Puck has been found

Finder of the gold puck wins its weight in gold*

ST. PAUL, MN (April 4, 2016) — The Hiway Federal Credit Union (Hiway) Gold Puck was found Friday, April 1 in Crosby Farm Regional Park by Rob Brass of Chaska, MN and Steve Worthman of Saint Paul, MN. The two men found the puck, hidden in a sock filled with straw, shortly after the posting of the fifth and final clue on Friday morning.

Hiway, in collaboration with the Minnesota Wild, created this new treasure hunt that drew prospectors from around the metro area that searched for the gold puck, worth approximately $5,800. That’s the cash equivalent* of a 5.5 ounce official National Hockey League puck in gold.

Both Brass and Worthman are avid treasure hunters and previous finders of the Saint Paul Winter Carnival Medallion. Brass found the medallion in 2007 and 2010 while Worthman located the medallion during the 2015 Winter Carnival.

“There were at least 100 others searching for the puck near us this morning,” said Brass. “The clues were great and very clever. It was a fun promotion that we hope Hiway conducts again next year.”

“Like Minnesotans everywhere, we love hockey at Hiway. We’re thrilled to have partnered with the Minnesota Wild on this exciting new promotion that engaged the team’s fans, our members and treasure seekers,” said David Boden, Hiway President/CEO. “Congratulations to both Rob and Steve for deciphering the challenging clues.”

A new clue was posted on hiway.org each Friday beginning on March 4, 2016. The clues were also available via Facebook and Twitter at @HiwayFCU. There were a total of five clues. By rule, the puck was hidden on public land somewhere in Ramsey or Hennepin County.

An explanation of each clue is available at hiway.org/goldpuck.

A presentation of the award will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, April 4 at Hiway’s main office located at 111 Empire Drive, St Paul, MN 55103.

Hiway, official credit union of the Minnesota Wild, also offers Wild fans the opportunity to show their team pride with their Minnesota Wild PowerPack, which includes a customized debit card, credit card and checks. Cardholders enjoy a 15% discount at all Hockey Lodge locations and have a chance to win Wild prizes with monthly drawings.

*The cash value of the prize of $5,831.65 was calculated based on the value of the weight of an official NHL puck (5.5 ounces) in gold at the market rate of $1,060.30 per ounce on January 1, 2016.
