Hiway Federal Credit Union named a 2017 ‘Best Credit Union’s Anyone Can Join’ by Kiplinger’s Personal Finance

ST. PAUL, MN (June 28, 2017) — Hiway Federal Credit Union® (Hiway) has been named as one of the best credit unions in the nation in Kiplinger’s Personal Finance’s first rankings of the Best Banks and Credit Union’s in the U.S. The magazine identified the crème de la crème, among national banks, nationally available credit unions, internet banks, plus the best bank in each of four regions.

“Delivering an exceptional member experience is our top priority,” said Dave Boden, Hiway President/CEO. “Whether our members choose to interact with us in person, over the phone or online, we strongly believe that every experience should be easy, convenient and friendly. Our focus is always on keeping the members’ best interests in mind, offering a full line of competitive products and services to help improve their overall financial well-being.”

Lisa Gerstner, a contributing editor of the magazine who was part of a team that worked on the best-bank-and-credit-union package that ran in the July issue of the magazine, said she focused on credit unions that “open their doors to any U.S. customer who joins a qualifying organization.” A special, expanded version that was published on the magazine’s website, www.kiplinger.com, cited Hiway as one of the best of the best for, among other things, both its free and Minnesota Wild checking accounts.

The editors at Kiplinger’s Personal Finance used data from Moebs Services, a Lake Forest, Ill. economic research firm, to rank national and regional banks and thrifts, credit unions and internet banks. The process started with all 11,831 U.S. depositories as of year-end 2016. The list was then screened for asset size, excess fees, high expenses and sufficient capital. The complete rankings are now available online at Kiplinger.com, along with in-depth profiles of the selected institutions. The ranking will be available in print in the July 2017 issue of the magazine, on newsstands June 6.
