Homeward Bound pet shelter receives major donation from LLCU

DECATUR, IL, (January 14, 2015) -- Local pet shelter, Homeward Bound, will have a more prosperous year thanks to a nearly $6,000 donation from Land of Lincoln Credit Union (LLCU).

Annually, credit union staff chooses a local organization to serve as the charity of the year to support and raise money on behalf of. This year’s efforts were headed up by LLCU Member Service Representative Shea Walters and LLCU Branch Manager Michelle Harvey and included a variety of events, cookouts, a garage sale, raffles and contests that brought in a grand total of $5,970 for the shelter.

The funds will go toward a new laptop for increasing efficiency in record keeping and a cleaning machine for the shelter. The mission of Homeward Bound Pet Shelter is to shelter and rehabilitate relinquished cats, kittens, dogs and puppies until they can be permanently adopted into loving homes. The shelter, a division of Macon Resources, Inc., also serves as a job training site for individuals with disabilities

“We are ecstatic and grateful for all that LLCU staff and members have done to raise money for the shelter. This helps us to ensure the animals receive the best care possible before they are placed with adoptive families,” said Linda Clary, Homeward Bound Shelter Supervisor. “Since we don’t receive any revenue from the county, we rely on donations like this to operate.”
