BINGHAMTON, NY (April 4, 2018) — Horizons Federal Credit Union donated a Calming Bench to Horace Mann Elementary School during a ceremony on Wednesday, March 21st. The bench, themed “Throw Your Worries Away,” is part of a program through the school that allows students to remove themselves from bad situations by sitting on the bench, writing down what is bothering them, and “throwing” their worries away.
The donation is part of a larger partnership between Horizons FCU and Horace Mann Elementary that will include a student savings program and a financial education seminar series for teachers and parents of Horace Mann students.
“We’ve partnered in the past with Horace Mann on other projects and this is a logical extension of that relationship,” said Mario DiFulvio, President and CEO of Horizons Federal Credit Union. “We are excited to provide whatever we can to our young neighbors in the community because they are the future.”
DiFulvio and Horace Mann Principal Peter Stewart were joined by students, faculty, and members of the media during the ceremony at the school.
“One of our goals is to really create students that are self-motivated and self-disciplined,” said Stewart. “Not only with their school work but with their behavior and, as you know, this is going to be reflective later on in life, where they’re going to have to make decisions.”
Horizons Federal Credit Union serves nearly 12,000 members who live, work or attend school in Broome County, with branches in Binghamton, Endwell, and Vestal.
Horace Mann Elementary is part of the Binghamton City School District and serves students in kindergarten through grade five.
