Houston Chapter of Credit Unions fights childhood hunger
HOUSTON, TX (February 26, 2021) —
Many children in the greater Houston area will have full bellies thanks to the Houston Chapter of Credit Unions. The Chapter’s board approved to donate $5,000 to the Kids’ Meals of Houston. Kid’s Meals is a charitable program that feeds children under age 6 who don’t have access to school-based free meal programs. During the recent winter storms, the Houston location lost power for days that depleted inventory at a time when our children need this food more than ever.
Craig Atkinson, the Chapter’s Chairperson and President of Houston Highway Credit Union explains “given the immediate need and our continued desire to support children’s causes, the board approve a donation to Kids Meals Houston. Beth Harp with Kid’s Meals was ecstatic and very appreciative that the Houston Chapter of Credit Unions is donating $5,000”.
Kid’s Meals of Houston can use your support too. Poverty-stricken families are impacted significantly by fluctuations in the economy, changed work hours, and even storms. Most families operate with no financial cushion. The health and safety of our children is paramount. Kid’s Meals of Houston accepts donations online at www.KidsMealsinc.org. You can also volunteer. Consider an employee matching program or participate in one of their fundraising events throughout the year. Help Kid’s Meals of Houston replete their inventory so the program can continue to fight childhood hunger.
Providing meals for children is one of many efforts in which the Chapter supports the community and enhances the quality of life in the Greater Houston Area. The Houston Chapter of Credit Unions provides a collaborative environment for credit union professionals and volunteers to receive education, leadership development, and grow credit union community influence. The Houston Chapter is comprised of over 100 credit unions in the Houston metropolitan area.
