How BHFCU made a $479k impact in 2025

Rapid City, SD (February 4, 2026) |

Have you ever asked yourself what the difference is between a credit union and a bank? When you get down to it, it’s about how each institution serves its people and its communities. Credit unions? They are all about passing the good stuff back to their members. It’s the driving force that propelled BHFCU to support 371 organizations last year.

Before diving into the details, check out these totals.

  • 173 events hosted or attended
  • 371 organizations supported
  • 5,263 items collected
  • $478,967 donated

Employees Live the Mission

BHFCU lives by the credit union philosophy, people helping people, and its employees put it into action. The credit union’s Community Action Team (CAT) is led by employees, giving to the community organizations they’re passionate about. This year, the group led four successful drives: Operation Hope, Raising for Rescues, Food for Good, and Delivering Joy. And BHFCU was behind them 100%, literally. The credit union matched employee donations dollar-for-dollar.

In 2025, CAT:

  • Supported 51 organizations
  • Collected an impressive 5,263 items
  • Raised $57,300

Putting Students First

Amid BHFCU’s pillars of giving, education consistently ranks at the top, so the credit union is always looking for ways to support students. Among those efforts are two annual favorites, the VIBZ Scholarship and the School Support Drive. These application- and nomination-based programs ensure the credit union supports the development of future generations.

In 2025, the School Support Drive:

  • 322 classroom and school nominations
  • Fulfilled 30 teacher wish lists with $11,900 of giving
  • Supported 12 school improvement projects to the tune of $17,500
  • Took a $15k chunk out of lunch debt

In 2025, the VIBZ Scholarship

  • Supported 20 first-year college students
  • Awarded $20k in scholarships

Supporting What’s Important to Members

BHFCU’s community support program is dedicated to fielding member requests and putting the credit union’s funds where they will make an impact, both through sponsorships and donations.

In 2025, BHFCU sponsorships:

  • Spanned 25 communities across three states
  • Supported 193 organizations
  • Awarded $188,157

In 2025, BHFCU donations:

  • Supported 62 organizations
  • Donated $169,110

Remaining Active & Sharing Knowledge

Whether it’s leading a financial literacy class at a business partner, hosting a booth at a community event, or simply being present, BHFCU is dedicated to helping its communities grow and thrive.

In 2025, BHFCU:

  • Hosted 12 community events
  • Attended 17 festivals, trade shows, and job fairs
