Hughes Federal Credit Union wraps up successful toy donation for popular annual children‘s charity
More than 500 toys collected
TUCSON, AZ (December 22, 2017) — Hughes Federal Credit Union, in partnership with La Caliente and La Buena radio stations, collected over 500 brand new toys on Friday, December 15, donated generously by Hughes’ members and employees for Ramon’s Miracle on 31st Street. All toys collected will be given away tomorrow at the 47th Annual Ramon’s Miracle on 31st Street event, held at the Casino del Sol. Up to 10,000 children are expected to participate, each one hoping to receive a toy.
Hughes, in partnership with La Caliente and La Buena radio stations, pulled out all the stops to create a memorable event on December 15 at Hughes’ Wetmore branch: an all-day DJ lineup, including Los Hijos de la Mañana, Enrique Mayans, and El Chiquilin; live music by Tecno-Banda La Mix; pictures with Santa, and food trucks. The first 100 people who donated toys received free tickets to the Renaissance Fair this spring, and a pair of Arizona Bowl tickets were given away every hour from 9am to 1pm.
Hughes started accepting toy donations at all seven of their branches throughout Tucson on November 24.
“Ramon’s Miracle on 31st Street is a long-standing tradition in our community and the perfect opportunity for Hughes to help spread holiday cheer,” said Kellie Terhune Neely, Vice President of Marketing. “We are proud to have such generous staff and community who have made this toy drive the most successful yet!”
Ramon’s Miracle on 31st Street is a 501(c)3 charitable organization that benefits local children. It started 47 years ago with Ramon Gonzales, a retired sheet metal worker, who took $125 from his own pocket to host a Christmas Eve party for the neighborhood children on his street. The party was held at his house on 31st Street in South Tucson.
The donated toys are provided during a holiday celebration for children who live in Tucson’s most disadvantaged neighborhoods.
Hughes Federal Credit Union believes in giving back to the community with its mission to always make a positive difference in each member’s financial life. In 2017 Hughes provided more than $127,600 in support of over 100 different local organizations within the Tucson community thanks to the Hughes Helps Program.
