Credit Union Donates Money to Help Find a Cure
DELRAY BEACH, Fl. (November 3, 2014) -- In an effort to help #StrikeOutALS, IBM Southeast Employees’ Federal Credit Union Managers and Members of the Executive Team accepted the challenge from their employees to participate in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.
This month, nine IBM Southeast EFCU Managers and Members of the Executive Team joined the millions of people across the nation in completing the Ice Bucket Challenge. To participate, employee teams made financial donations to see their Managers meet their ice bucket-filled fates.
Participating in the Challenge were Laura Hetherington, Vice President of Lending; Stephen Johnson, Business Development Manager; Sean Muldoon, Employee Performance and Development Manager; David Lyons, Vice President of Human Resources and Training; Mark Skinner, Senior Director of Real Estate Lending; Kelly Stover, Marietta Branch Manager; Rick Sartory, Director of Commercial Lending; Craig Thompson, Card Services Manager; Alex Yarnall, Director of Marketing and Brand Management.
ALS is often referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease, named after the baseball player who brought international attention to the disease in 1939.
Michael Miller, CEO of IBM Southeast EFCU, stated that the Ice Bucket Challenge is a fun, creative way to raise funds for the ALS Association. “We’re proud to take part in the Challenge and donate money so more research can be done to help find a cure.”
According to the ALS Association, the Ice Bucket Challenge has not only helped increase awareness, but as of August 29, the Association has received $100.9 million in donations compared to $2.8 million during the same time period last year. In addition to furthering research for a cure, contributions have also helped provide treatment and care for those living with the disease.
