International Representatives to Visit Minnesota CUs

In anticipation of the 2012 International Year of Cooperatives, the Minnesota Credit Union Network (MnCUN) will welcome six Paraguayan credit union representatives for a visit on Dec. 3-Dec. 10. This week-long event will immerse the international visitors into Minnesota and credit union culture through legislative meet-and-greets; visits at Hiway Federal Credit Union, SouthPoint Federal Credit Union, SPIRE Federal Credit Union and St. Paul Federal Credit Union; and various tourist and social activities. Members of the media are invited to attend the legislative portion of the week’s activities.

WHAT:     The international visitors will gain insight into Minnesota politics and credit union advocacy activities during a visit to the State Capitol. The group will meet with Speaker of the House Kurt  Zellers (R-Maple Grove) and the Commerce Department’s Deputy Commissioner of Administration Steve Carlson. They will also have the opportunity to learn more about Minnesota politics during a tour of the State Capitol.

WHEN:     Wednesday, Dec. 7

  • 10 a.m.            Meeting with Speaker of the House Kurt Zellers (other legislators have been invited to this meeting as well)
  • 10:30 a.m.       Meeting with Deputy Commerce Commissioner of Administration Steve Carlson
  • 11 a.m.            State Capitol tour

WHO:       Minnesota legislators, Deputy Commissioner of Administration, Paraguayan credit union representatives and MnCUN

WHY:       This visit is part of an ongoing international exchange between the Paraguayan credit union association Central de Cooperativas del Area Nacional Ltda. (CENCOPAN) and MnCUN that was established in 2004. Through the partnership, the countries’ credit union representatives are able to share ideas, knowledge and experiences. This year’s exchange will highlight Minnesota credit unions’ advocacy activities and focus on timely industry issues, including use of social media, branch design, policies and procedures.
