Iowa Credit Union Foundation Awards $5,750 in Scholarships to Six Iowa Students

Des Moines, Iowa—The Iowa Credit Union Foundation (ICUF) is pleased to announce the winners of its 2012 Family Involvement Board (FIB) Scholarship program. A total of $5,750 in scholarships was given to four high school students and two post-high school students to further their education. Nearly 300 applications were received.
Each applicant was required to complete an entry form and write a 500 word essay on the following issue:
Unfortunately, many Americans try to avoid money matters altogether and deal with problems as they arise. However, even with some knowledge about managing finances, you can maintain a healthy financial life. How are you educating yourself on personal finance and money management issues? Please include how you can utilize your credit union’s financial education expertise.
Winners were selected by a panel of judges including teachers and credit union professionals. Scores were based on originality, clarity, meaningful content, and accurate presentation of facts, among others.
“ICUF recognizes the importance of education within the credit union community, as well as the need for college funding,” said Marybeth Foster, Executive Director of ICUF. “Through our FIB Scholarship program, we are thrilled to able to provide financial support to six scholarship recipients.”
High School Winners:
- 1st place ($1,500): Christian Archer, Community 1st Credit Union (Ottumwa)
- 2nd place ($1,000): Jane Day, Linn Area Credit Union (Hiawatha)
- 3rd place ($750): Augustine Villa, Financial Plus Credit Union (Altoona)
- 4th place ($500): Matthew Peterson, Veridian Credit Union (Ankeny)
Post-High School Winners:
- Danielle Berte, Power Co-Op Employees Credit Union (Humboldt)
- Joseph Andre, Financial Plus Credit Union (Des Moines)
